In fact, the power output of a B20 engine is not significantly higher than that of a B18B engine—a small increase that usually does not make much difference for drivers looking for an upgrade. However, if you are comparing two cars with similar power outputs from their engines (such as two Civics), these differences will be more evident.
A B20 block has five cylinders instead of four or six like other Civic blocks; it can also be used in certain late-model Acura Integras. A 2.0L displacement means that each cylinder holds 0.5 liters of fluid by volume, giving it twice as much displacement per cylinder than a typical 1.8L 4-cylinder motor but less than half as much displacement per cylinder compared with larger V-6 engines found in many sedans today!

The difference in power between these two engines is approximately 15 hp at 6,500 rpm and 16 lb-ft of torque at 4,800 rpm for the B20 versus 14 hp at 7,000 rpm and 14 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 rpm for the B16A.
That said, there are several things to consider when looking at these numbers:
- Both Honda Civic models have manual transmissions; only automatic transmission cars use different gear ratios which can affect your dyno results by around 10 – 15 horsepower depending on what gear you’re in (for example an automatic version can produce more power in first gear because there’s less distance between gears). If you have access to test drive an automatic car before purchasing one then do so! Otherwise try searching online or asking friends if they know someone who owns such a vehicle.
