A Ford Mustang GT owner who wants to upgrade his car can now order an RB26 crate engine from a la carte. Previously, the menu consisted of a $53,400 crate engine package, but now the menu includes other parts such as cylinder heads, pistons, and exhaust assemblies. RB26 engine a la carte prices start at $2,000 for a basic block and go up to $4,400 for a more powerful unit. Cylinder heads can cost as much as $2,270.
2.6-liter twin-turbo inline-six
The RB26DETT is a 2.6-liter twin-turbo, inline-six engine. Its factory rating is 276 hp, but it can easily achieve four figures with a little work. The RB26DETT is also available in a crate version, with a starting price of $40000.

The RB26DETT is an inline-six engine that was manufactured by Nissan from 1989-2002. It features a cast-iron block, aluminum cylinder head, and a unique intake with six throttle bodies. The engine initially produced 276 horsepower at 6800 rpm and 289 lb-ft of torque at 4400 rpm. It was designed as part of the “Gentlemen’s Agreement” between the Japanese automakers.
While the Nissan RB26 was capable of much more power, it was limited to 276bhp for domestic cars due to safety concerns. However, the R32 GT-R V-spec model received an improved performance. The Skyline was also equipped with a stiffer suspension and an ATTESA 4WD system with an active limited-slip differential. A N1 version was also produced specifically for Japanese domestic racing.
